Knee mill features 3-axis CNC

Milltronics USA has released the VK4II CNC knee mill, the latest machine in its VK series of machines. With more than two dozen improvements over the previous version, the machine retains the MillSlide™ Z axis.

The 3-axis control enables the machine to be run in manual, teach, or full CNC mode. The Z axis is programmable, but also can be operated manually with a quill handle.

Travels are 33 in. (X) by 15 in. (Y) by 5.25 in. (Z) with 16.5 in. (knee) and 5.9 in. quill (manual). The machine has a 54-in. by 12-in. table with 1,500-lb. capacity.

Powered by a 7.5-HP, back-geared motor, this is a #40 taper machine with a two-speed, 3,900-RPM spindle. The head tilts +/- 90 degrees and offers +/- 11.5 in. of ram travel, which also swivels +/- 90 degrees. Standard handwheels are directly coupled to the ball screws and provide feedback to the operator.

Options include flood coolant and drip pan, table guard, power knee, and power draw bar.

The 8200-B CNC enables the machine to be programmed with conversational language, G-code, or a CAM system. The CNC is a PC-based control with a 12-in. LCD monitor and membrane keys.
